1What smbcalc is
smbcalc answers the money questions that come up every day when you run a small business: what to charge, what a platform keeps from a sale, what an employee costs once taxes and benefits are added, how much tax to set aside. Each answer is a calculator you can check, not a guess or a sales pitch.
There are 263 calculators in 11 areas:
2Who runs smbcalc
smbcalc is owned and run by SIA "Vizo Media", a company registered in Latvia under registration number 40203420359. The company builds and maintains the calculators, checks the rates against official sources and answers messages sent to [email protected].
3Who it's for
Small-business owners, online sellers, freelancers, contractors and the bookkeepers who help them, mostly in the United States. The tax and payroll calculators use US federal rules, the sales tax calculators cover every US state and DC, and the VAT calculator starts at the UK rate. A few calculators are also in Spanish, for the US and for Mexico; see the Spanish pages.
4How the calculators work
- Shown working. Every page explains the formula step by step and includes a worked example you can repeat by hand.
- Sources you can follow. Rates and limits link to the official source, such as the IRS, the Department of Labor, the SSA or the platform's own fee page. 75 calculators with changing rates show the date we last checked them.
- Rates you can change. Anything that changes from year to year is an input with a sensible default, so you can use your own figure.
- Tested. More than 2,000 automated tests check the formulas against worked examples before every release.
- Private. The maths runs in your browser. We don't store what you type.

5How the site is paid for
smbcalc is free and will stay free. It is meant to be paid for by display ads served by Google, but no ads are shown yet. We don't sell your data, charge for features or take payment to feature a product. How ads will use cookies is explained in the Privacy policy.
6Advertisers don't change the numbers
When ads are switched on, these rules apply. Ads are placed by an ad network, not chosen by us, and advertisers have no say over any formula, default value or result. Ads are kept out of the calculator itself and away from the result, and an ad on a page is never a recommendation.
7How we use AI
We use AI tools to help write code and first drafts, and to draw the line art for the kids' coloring pages. AI does not decide any rate or formula: every rate is checked against its official source, and every formula is covered by tests with worked examples before it goes live.
8History
smbcalc launched in 2026 with calculators for pricing, seller fees, payroll and tax, and has grown to 263. Changes to rates and formulas are listed in the corrections and updates log, and what we're building next is on Coming soon.
