How the Net 30 due date calculation works

  1. Net 30 means paid within 30 calendar days

Count from the invoice date, weekends and holidays included. An invoice dated October 14, 2026 is due November 13, 2026.

  2. Other terms work the same way

Net 15, 45, 60 and 90 add that many days to the invoice date. Net 60 from October 14 is December 13.

  3. 2/10 net 30 offers 2% off for paying within 10 days

The full amount is still due by day 30. On a $5,000 invoice, paying by day 10 saves $100.

  4. The discount has a yearly rate

    Rate = discount ÷ (1 − discount) × 365 ÷ (net days − discount days). For 2/10 net 30: 2 ÷ 98 × 365 ÷ 20 = 37.2% a year, far more than most credit lines cost.

Worked example. An invoice dated October 14, 2026 on Net 30 is due Friday, November 13, 2026. With 2/10 net 30 terms on $5,000, paying $4,900 by October 24 saves $100, which is the same as earning 37.2% a year on that money.

Net 30 Due Date FAQ

What does Net 30 mean?

The buyer must pay the full invoice within 30 calendar days of the invoice date. Paying after that makes the invoice overdue.

How do I calculate a Net 30 due date?

Add 30 days to the invoice date. Weekends and holidays count. Net 30 is 30 days, not one calendar month: an invoice dated January 31, 2026 is due March 2, 2026, and one dated July 31, 2026 is due August 30, 2026.

What does 2/10 net 30 mean?

The buyer can take 2% off if they pay within 10 days; otherwise the full amount is due in 30 days. Skipping the discount costs about 37% a year: 2 ÷ 98 × 365 ÷ 20 = 37.2%. Some finance textbooks use a 360-day year, which gives 36.7%.

What do Net 60 and Net 90 mean?

The full amount is due 60 or 90 calendar days after the invoice date. From an invoice dated October 14, 2026, Net 60 is December 13, 2026 and Net 90 is January 12, 2027.

Does Net 30 include weekends?

Yes, Net terms count calendar days. If the due date falls on a weekend, many businesses pay on the next business day, but check the agreement.

What happens if a Net 30 invoice is paid late?

The invoice becomes overdue the day after the due date. A late fee or interest applies only if the invoice or contract sets one, and state law may limit it. Use the late payment interest calculator to work out the charge.

Should I offer Net 30 or Net 60?

Shorter terms bring cash in sooner. Net 60 or 90 is common with large buyers, but it ties up your cash for longer, so price that in or offer an early-payment discount.
