How the cabinet refacing cost calculation works
Count doors and drawer fronts and measure the run
The example kitchen has 20 doors, 8 drawer fronts and 25 linear ft of cabinets.
Price the new fronts
20 doors at $70 is $1,400 and 8 drawer fronts at $40 is $320.
Add veneer, hardware and other materials
Veneer at $40 per linear ft is $1,000, 28 sets of hinges and pulls at $15 are $420, and $300 of trim and fasteners make $3,440 of materials.
Add labor and markup, then compare
40 hours at $60 is $2,400. A 25% markup on $5,840 gives $7,300, or $292 per linear ft. New cabinets at $450 per linear ft would be $11,250.
Worked example. A kitchen with 25 linear ft of cabinets, 20 doors at $70, 8 drawer fronts at $40, veneer at $40 per linear ft, hardware at $15 a piece and $300 of other materials needs $3,440 of materials. With 40 hours of labor at $60 and a 25% markup, the refacing price is $7,300, or $292 per linear ft. Against new cabinets at an example $450 per linear ft ($11,250), refacing saves $3,950, or 35.1%. Cabinet Refacing Cost FAQ
How much does cabinet refacing cost?
There is no official national price; it depends on the number of doors and drawer fronts, the door style and material, the length of the run and local labor rates. With this page's example prices, 25 linear ft with 20 doors and 8 drawer fronts comes to $7,300. Enter your own prices or a supplier's quote to get yours.
How do I work out the cost to reface kitchen cabinets?
Multiply the doors and drawer fronts by their unit prices, add veneer for the boxes by the linear foot, hinges and pulls, and other materials. Then add labor hours × your rate and a markup for overhead and profit.
What is the cabinet refacing price per linear foot?
Divide the full refacing price by the linear feet of cabinet run. In the example, $7,300 ÷ 25 ft = $292 per linear ft. Kitchens with many small doors cost more per foot than kitchens with a few wide ones.
Is refacing cheaper than replacing cabinets?
Often, because the cabinet boxes stay and there is less demolition, but it depends on your prices. Enter an installed price per linear ft for new cabinets and the calculator shows the difference. In the example, refacing at $7,300 is $3,950 less than new cabinets at $11,250.
When should I replace instead of reface?
Replace when the boxes are damaged, sagging or water-stained, or when the layout, height or depth of the cabinets has to change. Refacing keeps the existing boxes and layout.
Does refacing include new hardware?
It can: new doors may need different hinges, and customers often want pulls to match the new fronts. Enter the price per door or drawer, or 0 if the old hardware stays.
How long does cabinet refacing take?
The labor hours give the working time: 40 hours is one week for one person or about half a week for two. Add the lead time for ordering custom doors from your supplier.
