How the TikTok Shop fee calculation works

TikTok Shop's referral fee and creator commission on an order, and the profit left after your costs. Rates follow TikTok Shop's US referral fee table, updated 8 Oct 2026.

  1. TikTok takes a referral fee on each order

6% in most US categories, 5% for Pre-Owned and for diamond, gold, jade, platinum and ruby, sapphire and emerald jewelry. TikTok charges it on what the buyer pays plus any TikTok-funded discount, minus tax, so shipping the buyer pays is included. A $30 order pays $1.80.

  2. Creators take their commission on top

If a creator sold the item through a video or live, you pay the affiliate rate you set. 10% of $30 is $3.00.

  3. Payment processing is included

TikTok defines the US referral fee as covering all TikTok Shop fees except shipping and tax, so there's no separate payment processing fee.

  4. Your own costs come off last

The item and the shipping label decide whether the sale made money. The break-even price shows the floor for promotions.

Worked example. A $30.00 order with free shipping pays a 6% referral fee of $1.80 and a 10% creator commission of $3.00. After an $8.00 item cost and a $5.00 label you keep $12.20. Below $15.48 the item loses money at that creator rate.

TikTok Shop Fee FAQ

How much does TikTok Shop take per sale?

A referral fee of 6% in most US categories, on the item price plus shipping charged. On a $30 order that's $1.80, before any creator commission.

What is the TikTok Shop commission rate?

TikTok's own commission is the referral fee: 6% in most US categories. The creator (affiliate) commission is separate. You set that rate yourself, and you pay it only on sales a creator drives.

Did TikTok Shop raise its fee to 8%?

Not on TikTok's official US rate table, which still lists 6% for most categories in its 8 Oct 2026 update. TikTok raised the rate to 6% on 1 April 2024. Some third-party sites report 8%; check the rate on your settlement statement and enter it here.

Do I pay the creator commission on top of TikTok's fee?

Yes. The affiliate commission you set is paid to the creator in addition to the referral fee, and only on sales they drive.

Which TikTok Shop categories have a lower referral fee?

Pre-Owned categories pay 5%, and so do five jewelry sub-categories: diamond, gold, jade, platinum and carat gold, and ruby, sapphire and emerald (since 31 Oct 2024). Pre-Owned and Collectibles pay 3% on any part of a sale over $10,000.

Are there different fees for new TikTok Shop sellers?

TikTok says new sellers enrolled in a promotional plan stay on it until the promotion ends, but it does not publish one plan rate. Enter the rate shown in your Seller Center while it applies.

Does TikTok Shop refund the fee when an order is returned?

Yes, minus a refund administration fee of 20% of the referral fee, capped at $5 per SKU since 15 May 2025. On a $30 item at 6% that keeps $0.36 of the $1.80 fee.

What other TikTok Shop costs should I include?

Shipping labels, Fulfilled by TikTok fees, returns, samples sent to creators and ads. Add per-order amounts under Other fees.
