How the Whatnot fee calculation works
Whatnot's commission and processing fee on a sale, your payout and the profit after your item cost.
Whatnot takes a commission on the sold price
8% of the item price on the Standard US tier, 4% for coins, and lower once your sales reach $15,000 in four weeks. Shipping and tax are not commissioned. A $50 sale pays $4.00.
Processing is charged on the whole order
2.9% + $0.30 of the item, the shipping the buyer pays and the sales tax. $56 with 8% tax is $60.48, so processing is $2.05.
The buyer pays for shipping
Whatnot generates the label and charges the buyer, so shipping doesn't come out of your payout, but it does raise the processing fee.
Use break-even as your starting bid
Auctions can end low. Starting at the break-even price means a sale never costs you money.
Worked example. A $50.00 sale with $6.00 shipping and 8% tax: commission is $4.00 and processing is 2.9% of $60.48 plus $0.30, or $2.05. Your payout is $43.95, and after a $20.00 item cost you keep $23.95. Below $23.05 the item loses money.
Whatnot Fee FAQ
How much does Whatnot take from a sale?
An 8% commission on the sold price on the standard tier, plus 2.9% + $0.30 processing on the order total. On a $50 sale with $6 shipping and 8% tax that's $6.05.
Does Whatnot charge fees on shipping and tax?
The commission doesn't, but the processing fee does: it is worked out on the whole amount the buyer pays.
Is the Whatnot commission the same for every category?
No. Coins start at 4%, and since 21 September 2026 every category gets a lower rate as your four-week sales grow, for example down to 6.5% for sports cards and 4.5% for fashion. Live sales use the category of the show, marketplace sales the category of the product. Enter the rate shown in your Seller Hub.
What are the Whatnot commission tiers in 2026?
In the US your total sales over four weeks set your tier for the next four weeks. Standard ($0–$14,999) pays 8%, or 4% for coins. Tier 1 ($15,000–$34,999) pays 7.75% for sports and TCG, 7.25% other collectibles, 7% fashion and other, 3.9% coins. The lowest rates are 6.5% for sports and TCG at $500,000+, 4.5% fashion from $250,000, 5% other collectibles and 4% other from $100,000, and 3.5% coins at $500,000+.
How much does Whatnot take on a $100 sale?
With $6 shipping and 8% tax the buyer pays $114.48. Commission is $8.00 and processing is 2.9% of $114.48 plus $0.30, or $3.62. Fees total $11.62 and your payout is $88.38. At a 7% tier rate fees drop to $10.62.
Does the Premier Shop discount still lower my commission?
Only until 31 October 2026, when it takes 10% off your rate (5% becomes 4.5%). From 1 November 2026 Premier Shop no longer includes a commission discount, so your rate comes from your sales tier alone.
What should my starting bid be on Whatnot?
At least the break-even price shown above, so the sale covers the item cost after fees. $1 starts bring viewers but can sell at a loss.
Why is my Whatnot payout different?
Category rates, promotions, your sales tier, and shipping or tip adjustments change the total. Cancelled orders also come off your four-week sales total. Each order's exact rate is in Seller Hub under Orders; edit the rates here to match it.
