Take-Home Pay Calculator
- Take-home
- Federal income tax
- Social Security and Medicare
An estimate of the tax you owe for 2026 with the standard deduction. Your paychecks follow your W-4 and can differ; credits such as the child tax credit lower the tax further.
How the take-home pay calculation works
Your salary after 2026 federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare and state tax, with pre-tax 401(k) and health deductions: take-home pay per paycheck, per month and per year.
Start with your salary and pre-tax deductions
A 401(k) lowers the income that's taxed; pre-tax health premiums also lower Social Security and Medicare wages.
Take off the standard deduction
For 2026 it's $16,100 single, $32,200 married filing jointly and $24,150 head of household. $60,000 − $16,100 leaves $43,900 of taxable income.
Apply the 2026 tax brackets
Single: 10% on the first $12,400 ($1,240) and 12% on the next $31,500 ($3,780), so $5,020 of federal income tax.
Take off Social Security and Medicare
6.2% Social Security ($3,720) and 1.45% Medicare ($870) leave $50,390 a year: $4,199.17 a month or $1,938.08 every two weeks.
Worked example. On a $60,000 salary, single, with no state income tax and no pre-tax deductions, you take home about $50,390 a year after $5,020 of federal income tax, $3,720 of Social Security and $870 of Medicare: $1,938.08 every two weeks or $4,199.17 a month.
